Statement of the DTC Regarding the BOE

The Granby Democratic Town Committee supports Board of Education members Monica Logan and Liz Barlow and believes that the Republican Town Committee's suggestion that they resign is completely unwarranted.

The conversation between the two BOE members picked up by a hot mic prior to the start of the last Board of Education meeting on February 18 was inappropriate. They have taken responsibility for their comments and apologized. The DTC embraces accountability for our elected officials and both Monica and Liz have demonstrated a commitment to that principle.

Monica Logan states, "I am genuinely sorry and apologize for the conversation I had with Liz and would welcome speaking with anyone that felt we let down our community.  But let's acknowledge that the same people now calling us homophobic were the same people accusing us of pushing a gay agenda and trying to "groom" children.  This is political chaos and retribution. The false accusations and defamation is unproductive and not reflective of the good people in our town. We are here to do the work voters asked us to do."

When a video honoring PRIDE month was shown in one of our schools, Republicans were furious. So, their outrage today is hypocritical, at best. We wish they had demonstrated this kind of concern and support for the LGBTQIA+ community when they sat on and controlled the Board of Education.

Last November, voters made it clear it was time for new leadership in Granby. Democrats will continue to serve the needs of all students and families in Granby, and we hope that Monica and Liz continue to be part of our team.
